Open Thread, Sept. 12-14, #Braves Might Have Upper Hand

Tuesday UPDATE: Good news. Swanson is in the lineup after taking an errant throw in, as Braves official site scribe Mark Bowman put it, “the groin region.” Also good to see Wisler back on the bump. The lineup: Inciarte, Garcia, Freddie, Kemp, Markakis, Flowers, Peterson, Swanson, Wisler.

I know. It’s hard to claim the Braves have an edge in any series this season. But as anyone who cares enough to read this blog knows, the club is much improved offensively. And the pitching matchups for this three-gamer with the Fish look reasonably promising.

Folty goes tonight. He’s been good: a 3.40 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his past seven games. Julio goes Wednesday. He faces Jose Fernandez, never an easy draw but Fernandez’s road numbers are decidedly worse than his home stats. The Braves have not announced Tuesday’s starter, but the Marlins are pitching a 26-year-old rookie making his third big league start. Jake Esch hasn’t been very good in his first two outings.

It’s thundering in Midtown. It’s Monday. The Braves are 30 games out. Seats are available.

Tonight’s lineup: Inciarte, Garcia, Freddie, Kemp, Markakis, Flowers, Peterson, Swanson, Folty.

  1. In terms of just baseball, how great is it that only one team has clinched a playoff spot when we’re halfway through September? Should be some great division and wild card races the rest of the way.

I figure we have 10 AL teams fighting for 5 spots while in the NL is somewhat-less-exciting with only 8 teams still alive.

Nevertheless, should be a fun final two weeks!
