Open thread, 5/18, #Braves vs. the line-up card

Are we sure Fredi is no longer the manager? Because tonight’s line-up looks like something his gut would think up.

Gordon Beckham, a right-handed batter, stroked three hits last night, including two doubles. But he won’t start against southpaw Francisco Liriano. Chase D’Arnaud gets the nod instead.

Mallex Smith, who homered twice Tuesday, will also be a spectator. He’s struggled against lefties this year but has hit them well in his career (.288 BA in 2015). His replacement, Jeff Francoeur, has a .375 slugging percentage against lefties. And he won’t be a Brave next year, if there is a God. So if Mallex has some work to do vs. southpaws, isn’t now the time to see if he can work it out?

This illustrates why the Braves need to go outside the organization to hire their next skipper. Because apparently no one on the inside knows how to fill out a line-up card.

This one may be the worst yet:

Inciarte CF, Markakis RF, Freeman 1B, Francoeur LF, Flowers C, Aybar 2B, d’Arnaud 3B, Castro SS, Teheran P
