Open thread, 4/10, #Braves vs. 1988

A few things are clear four games into the season:

Erick Aybar is no Andrelton Simmons;

Julio Teheran is not fixed;

A.J. Pierzynski is 39-years-old;

This is the worst Braves team since George H. Walker Bush was president.

And with Williams Perez facing off against Adam Wainwright, things aren’t looking up. Especially with this line-up taking the field:

Aybar 6, M’kakis 9, Freeman 3, Garcia 5, Olivera 7, Flowers 2, Peterson 4, Stubbs 8, Perez 1

Not all the news is negative. At Gwinnett last night, Mallex Smith rapped four hits to up his BA to .400. Aaron Blair was sharp in his debut, allowing 3 runs in 6 IP with 6 K’s.

Ozzie Albies is also hitting .400 after a three-hit night for Mississippi, which received a strong outing from Sean Newcomb: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 Ks. And Max Friend looked good in his first start as a Brave, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs in 5 innings, striking out 4.

  1. Thank goodness Erick Lowbar has only a one-year contact. If he keeps this up, there will be no takers to dump him in a late season trade.
