Open thread, 8/18, #Braves vs. Cameron Crowes

So what is Matt Wisler’s ceiling? He doesn’t have ace stuff but seems to have a good idea of what he’s doing on the mound.

But are hitters catching up to him? In his first five starts Wisler had a 3.10 ERA and 1.310 WHIP and struck out 6.5/9 IP. In five starts since he has a 6.43 ERA and 1.714 WHIP with just 5.1 K/9 IP.

The Braves go into 2016 with only two starters they can depend on, and one of them is finishing up his worst season. Beyond Julio T and Shelby, you have potential that’s still unproven. If Wisler’s struggles continue he shouldn’t be guaranteed a spot in the 2016 rotation.

One more night without Freddie. Not sure when Olivera will join the club though I expect you’ll see him by this time next week at the latest.

The line-up:

1.Bourn 7 2.Maybin 8 3.Markakis 9 4. A.J. 2 5.Garcia 5 6.Peterson 4 7.Terdo 3 8.Simmons 6 9.Wisler 1

  1. I didn’t stay up to watch the game, but apparently Melvin Upton, Jr (formerly BJ Upton) unloaded on the Braves with 2 HR’s and something like 5 RBI’s. And thus the roster of underwhelming former Braves who yet crush their former team gains a new member. That Melvin has more HR’s in a single game against us than he had all last year for us (from what I recall, anyway) is further proof the Baseball Gods have a cruel sense of humor.
