Knucksie’s last game

Had the ’87 Braves been competitive this moment would’ve never happened. Knucksie, then 48, had a 6.10 ERA when the Blue Jays released him three weeks earlier. He was brought back for one last start with the franchise that signed him in 1958.

It didn’t go so well — six hits, six walks and and five runs in three innings — but the fans got to say thank you to the player who, for so many years, was the only reason to watch the Braves.

  1. I was there that afternoon with friends, hoping against hope for a triumphant final twirl from the man who gave Braves fans so much. Probably my favorite Brave, when all is said and done.
