Headlines never written about contenders

Non-roster invitees could figure big in Braves’ plans

According to Fredi, at least 8 of the invitees “have really, really got a good chance” to make the Opening Day roster: Starting pitchers Wandy Rodriguez and Eric Stults, relievers Jose Veras, Matt Capps and lefty *Brady Feigl, second baseman/utility player Kelly Johnson, outfielder Eric Young Jr., and catcher John Buck.

Meanwhile, Alberto Callaspo is still fat, according to Mark Bowman.

*First I’ve ever heard of Feigl. He was signed by the Braves following an open tryout in Oct. 2013. The lefty had been a promising pitcher at Mount Saint Mary’s College before a torn labrum cost him his junior season and, it appeared, any chance at pitching in the majors. Feigl acquitted himself well in the minors last year, striking out 60 in 65 innings between Rome and Lynchburg with a 1.112 WHIP.
