#Braves pickin’ and grinnin’ again

Roy Clark, the Braves scouting director run out of town by Frank “Mr. Personality” Wren, is returning to the organization as a special assistant to the GM. He was responsible for drafting Adam Wainwright, Adam LaRoche, Brian McCann, Charlie Morton, Jeff Francoeur, Salty, Jeff Locke, Matt Harrison, Yesco, Tommy Hanson, Kris Medlen, Jay Hey, Freddie, Kimbrel and Minor. Since he left the Braves have drafted poorly, and his replacement, Tony DeMacio, has been reassigned. Crosschecker Brian Bridges is the new scouting director.

The additions of Clark and Gordon Blakeley, imported from the Yankees, shows the Braves are serious about rebuilding their moribund player development department. Moreover, the flurry of moves all but guarantee either John Hart or John Coppolella will be the next GM.

I figured Hart’s announcing that Fredi would return as manager pretty much indicated that either Hart of Coppolella would be the next GM.

These are good moves. We’ll have to wait a year for the other shoe to drop on Fredi. Another 7-18 September should do it.
