Open thread, 8/5, #Braves vs. The Presidents of the USA

The bad news: Felix Hernandez, who has a 1.44 ERA in his last 14 starts, with 118 K’s and 19 BB in 106 IP, toes the slab for the Mariners. He’s the right-handed Kershaw and the Braves are a collection of Pat Rocketts.

The good news: BK is on the bench — for good, we hope, although that’s wishful thinking. At least we won’t have to hear Chip spread the propaganda about what a wonderful job he’s done leading off.

Unlikely as it is, beating King Felix would be a nice confidence boost for a team that badly needs one.

The line-up:

Bonifacio 8, La Stella 4, Freeman 3, JUpton 7, Heyward 9, Gattis DH, Johnson 5, Laird 2, Simmons 6 (Wood 1)

  1. The guy that plays a guitar with two strings just enrages me. We’d better win tonight

  2. AA has adopted a drinking game where every time the Braves score a run, you take a shot of Patron.

  3. And yet we’re still only 3 games behind Washington for the NL East lead…it’ll be interesting to see if the Braves can continue their dominance of the Nats when they play next, as it could make the NL East a lot tighter than it really should be.

  4. You know, nothing like a 0-7 (and counting) West Coast swing during a pennant race to drain fan enthusiasm for the last third of the season. This crap really ought to get somebody fired, but I doubt it will. Which saps my fandom even more.

  5. Attendance and TV ratings are down significantly, which could hurt the bottom line, which is probably the only thing that gets Liberty’s attention. So maybe someone will be held accountable.
