Open thread, 7/29, #Braves vs. Michael Bays

So it’s time to find out if these Braves are any good. I have my doubts, but every time I’m ready to give up on them they prove me wrong, though scratching out just 2 runs off a 37-year-old converted outfielder doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.

Instead of Jason Lane they’ll face a resurgent Josh Beckett (though he has struggled in July, allowing 4 HR and a 5.93 ERA in his last three starts. Greinke toes the slab on Wednesday then it’s the best pitcher in baseball. Kershaw vs. Julio T. should be a treat.

Hopefully Jay Hey, sidelined by back issues, will be back by then.

Speaking of injuries, Shea Simmons was placed on the DL due to shoulder tightness. Juan Jaime, who looked good in brief cameo last month, was recalled from Gwinnett.

The line-up:

BUpton CF, La Stella 2B, Freeman 1B, JUpton LF, Gattis C, Johnson 3B, Doumit RF, Simmons SS, Harang P

  1. I feel like they really should have had that one, especially after chasing Beckett early. I can’t say I like our chances in the next two, but hopefully Julio will really step it up and we can scratch out a run against Kershaw and steal that one.
