In their last 16 games, all against sub.-500 teams, the Braves are 6-10. They’ll have to win the three remaining games against the Padres to ensure a .500 homestand.
The Braves haven’t played a team with a winning record since June 24, yet in the month and one day since they’ve actually lost ground to the Nats.
Next week the schedule toughens considerably. Anyone think this team can’t compete with the likes of the Dodgers, A’s and, loathe though I am to say it, Nats?
It’s a shame this inevitable slide didn’t begin earlier, as the Braves couldn’t have gotten a head start on 2015 by trading attractive pieces like J-Up and Santana.
Instead, we can look forward to a season that will probably look a lot this one, personnel-wise.
Not a very comforting thought.
