Luis Avilan, who wasn’t fooling anyone, was sent to Gwinnett today and replaced on the roster by Chasen Shreve, called up from Mississippi.
Shreve flew under everyone’s radar until this season, when, according to Chop Country, he rediscovered his velocity. The slender southpaw has been terrific at Double-A, striking out 76 and walking just 9 in 54 IP, good for a 0.939 WHIP. He’s been better against righties than lefties, who have hit .259 off Shreve this year.
We’re about to find out if he’s ready for the majors.
