Open thread, 5/18, Braves vs. Linda Blairs

Never fear — the Braves have just the antidote for their moribund offense: Dan Uggla, back at 2B today, batting 6th. Fortunately we won’t have to endure Uggla and B.J. in the same line-up. Jordan Schafer gets the start in CF, against a lefty no less. Can’t do any worse. B.J. is on pace to strike out more than 200 times this year.

So is his little brother, the streakiest hitter I’ve ever seen. If you didn’t follow the Braves closely you’d assume Justin was having a solid season (.356 OBP, .517 slugging). But 5 of his 9 homers came in a span of 9 games in April. He has 1 HR, 1 RBI and 19 K’s this month.

Depressed yet?

The line-up:

Heyward 9, JUpton 7, Freeman 3, Johnson 5, Simmons 6, Uggla 4, Laird 2, Schafer 8, Floyd 1

  1. Hard to remember a Braves team looking this bad. Just play adequate defense today and the Cardinals probably have no runs. This game is an example of how a line score — no errors — can be next to meaningless. Oafbatross has covered himself in glory today with two shitty throws that cost runs. And, oh yeah, he’s hitless but that’s so routine it’s not worth mentioning. Release him now. This club needs a jolt. Bring up LaStella, Do something. Is Reagan in office? This is looking like the summer of 1988.

  2. Braves get a bunt down and it doesn’t really matter because Schafer was running, and appeared to have the base stolen. Oh, well. Can’t have everything, like routine competence.
