Watching BJ struggle (he makes Uggla look like Rico Carty) made me think how the Braves have not had much success (actually pretty lousy) over the years with their signing of position players as free agents.
Here’s a list I could come up with that have had good success. The list goes back to 1991.
    Terry Pendleton
    Andres Gallaraga
    Otis Nixon
    Lonnie Smith
    Julio Franco
Here’s the ones that have had moderate success or been good backups.
    David Ross
    Vinnie Castilla
    Walt Weiss
    Sid Bream
    Rafael Belliard
    Eric Hinske
    Not that impressive.
Can anybody think of any I’ve missed?

We got Otis in a trade.

It’s a little early to be consigning Upton to the Esasky pile just yet.

That Reuschel Bros. card has been making me laugh since I pulled one out of a pack 36 years ago.

Wasn’t Sheffield a free agent signing? He was great during the regular season; in the post season, not so much…

  4. Nope, traded from the Dodgers for B. Jordan and Odalis Perez.
