You hear the rumblings. Lately even the most ardent Bobby backers are beginning to wonder if the Cox era should end. I can’t bring myself to say it, but at what point does the team’s lackluster play — compounded by poor fundamentals — reflect on the manager?

A question I’d rather not ask

Where’s my “HELL YES!” option?
I wish he had the self awareness to recognize this himself. The next era needs to start, on the field and in the dugout.

I agree w/ Pepe. I don’t think Bobby should be fired mid-season. He should be allowed to exit gracefully. But, the next generation needs to start, whether it’s TP, Glenn Hubbard (who I’d like to see get a shot) or some one else. These are clearly transition years until the young studs come up. JS is “gone”, Smoltz is gone and I don’t get the feeling that Glav is coming back this yeare. It’s time to start thinking about moving on.

Why should it be considered a knock on Bobby to wish the Braves would get started with a new manager sooner rather than later? The next skipper almost certainly will manage with a different style and personnel preference, and with each passing day the likelihood that Bobby will be able to coax an above-.500 record out of the current group looks slimmer. There are lots of reasons for Braves fans to wish the franchise was moving into its future faster, none of which reflect badly on Bobby or what he’s accomplished.

I don’t think anyone is a bigger BC fan than me, but I (painfully) had to vote “yes”. No scenario should involve him being “fired”, but I think at some point we need to think about the future and who should be the manager when we have a lineup that includes Heyward, Freeman, Hansen, etc.

It was with a big sense of guilt that I voted yes on this question. I not only have been a big fan of Bobby’s during the great Braves run, I was a big fan during his first tenure here. That said, the Braves simply look like a team that doesn’t care, and I have to say that the blame probably (possibly unfairly) lands at the feet of Bobby. As far as his replacement, I hate the idea of TP as a manager, almost as much as I hate to realize that he’s the current hitting instructor. It’s time that the Braves looked outside the organization for the next manager, someone that can last 3-4 years until Chipper assumes the mantle. Thanks Bobby for making my favorite team the best organization in baseball, now move on and take your place in Cooperstown as a manager.

Chipper as manager? No thanks. The team is laconic enough as it is.

I’m beginning to hope it’s not TP that eventually helms the ship. I think our hitters have not matured under him. Frenchy and Andrew finding success only after going to Jamarillo certainly doesn’t help TP’s case. And he would only represent a link to the past rather than a move to the future. Cox deserves all the credit in the world – we had one on the best clubs for a good 15 years. But when he steps down lets bring in a new face with a new philosophy.

That’s why I’m pro-Hubbard for the managerial spot. I know his name never comes up and I’m not even sure he wants it. But, the scrappy 2nd baseman turned manager may be enough of a philosophical change. He knew how to manufacture runs as a player. He should be able to pass that along as manager. Not sure who else I’d consider.

I’ve been saying this for years, baby! The old tractor jockey’s got to go. This team needs an innovator, someone like Jerry Glanville. He’s working miracles in Portland, and Jerry enjoys a challenge — just like me. How else you think I scored with Susie Anton? Heeeeey!

Glen Hubbard is the definition of “built like a brick shithouse.” He may only be three feet tall, but he could kill all of us while eating a ham sandwich.
I’m with CB, if the choice for a new manager came down to Chipper or an inanimate log, I’d have to go with the log.
