Tonight, it was all about Fredi
I certainly didnt expect to write nice things about Fredi tonight, but through 7 innings he appeared a genius, making the right calls on Garcia starting, pinch hitting Constanza and putting the winning run on to pitch to Adrian Gonzalez. All unconventional, all correct (save for having J-Up to bunt in the 1st). What a night for Fred!
And then he makes the spectacularly stupid blunder in the 8th. I didn’t have a problem with Carp starting the 8th, but the moment Puig doubled Kimbrel should’ve been summoned. Defending that decision is akin to defending the Uggla or B.J. contracts — as Jeff Passan pointed out, Mariano Rivera pitched 2 innings or more 27 times in his postseason career. But Kimbrel can’t get six outs, sez our manager.
Fredi blew it, as many of us suspected he would.
And the rest is yet the latest entry to our annual October heartbreak.
