Open Thread, 9/2, Braves vs. Ed Kranepools

Another rainy day for baseball. It’d be interesting to know how much the weather has hurt the gate this season. Attendance is up from last year, but it had to have affected it. On the other hand, if people are heading to the yard, they know the game is not likely to be postponed since the field drains miraculously well, and the umps will delay forever to get in a game.krane

Bottom line, though, not too many people want to sit in a drizzle or wait out a couple hours of delays, understandably.  On a sunnier note, hee, hee, Gattis has four hits in two games in Buford, including a pair of doubles and a homer. On a cloudier note, BJ followed up his four-hit extravaganza on Saturday by going 0-for-3, but he did walk.

Today’s lineup: Schafer, J Upton, Freeman, McCann, Johnson, BJ, Uggla, Simmons, Maholm.

Looks like Wainwright might be paying for that long outing he had against the Bravos?

  2. I once sat (or stood where it was dry) through 2 or 3 hours of rain delays to watch both ends of a night double-header in September between the not-going-anywhere Rangers and Mariners (it was the Mariners’ last trip to town, and the previous night’s game had been rained out), and there were STILL enough people left at the end that I couldn’t get a lousy foul ball. I’ve always wanted to be one of the 100 or so people left at the bitter end of a meaningless ballgame, and I figured that was my chance, but a couple of thousand die-hards waited out the entire night’s action.

GB, I had the same idea about Wainwright. It would serve the bastard right. He got himself into Walk-Hrabosky territory for me last year with that “We’ll wait and celebrate after we beat the Braves” junk.
