Open thread, 8/14, Braves vs. Norman Fells

The Philly native still thinks Jack Tripper is gay.

Brandon Beachy may have to pitch as well as he did last Friday to win tonight, considering the line-up behind him:

Heyward 9, JUpton 7, Freeman 3. Gattis 2, CJohnson 5 ,Pastornicky 4, BUpton 8, Janish 6, Beachy 1

Simmons and McCann are getting a rest, and it would be incumbent on Fredi to keep everyone fresh with the division all but clinched. The magic number is 30, by the way.

There’s been some griping lately from Braves fans that this team doesn’t get enough respect nationally, and I understand the sensitivity. But we should remember that, as recently as three weeks ago, many of us were pessimistic about the local nine’s chances. And although this Braves team shouldn’t be held accountable for the October failures of past squads, it stands to reason that people are going to have doubts about their postseason chances.┬áBeing a Braves fan means wishing for the best but expecting the worst.

Why should we expect different from anyone else?

  1. Chip: “The local radar is giving us mixed signals, if you pardon the pun.” Where’s the pun?

Pastornicky is such a crap player.

  3. I see the Royals just picked up Emilio Bonifacio, a player the Braves tried to acquire during the offseason, for virtually nothing. (Cash and a player to be named.) The Braves sure could have used him, even before the Reverend got hurt.

Bonifacio is a dreadful fielder, has no power, and doesn’t get on base. All he does well is run. I’ll pass. I’d like to see La Stella in there.

&*%! Pastornicky almost took out our star right fielder last night. Some help he is. I hope that dimwit is done for the year. He’s a menace to the ballclub.

  5. Sigh. I don’t see La Stella getting a look until September call-ups (especially seeing as he’s not on the 40-man roster), so if the Rev goes on the DL, I guess we’d have to trade for somebody like Beckham. Sure wish Schafer could play 2B. Maybe he should start learning.

  6. Beckham’s having a decent season. Maybe he’d rediscover his potential in his hometown.

La Stella couldn’t be any worse than who we’ve run out there. I don’t know what it would do for his development, and I think you’re right that it’s more likely we’ll see him in Sept if at all.

    DeRosa would be another idea.
