Open Thread, 7.26, Braves vs. Fred Sanford.’s extended family
Huddy’s gone, the Braves have been outplayed for the past month by the Mets and Marlins, and now the mighty Cardinals are rolling into town.
Oy. At least the Nats aren’t letting yesterday’s Harper walk-off spark them. They lost the opener of a twinbill to the Mets 11-0, and they face Harvey tonight. So there’s really not too much urgency. We just have to find another starting pitcher before the playoffs, and Wren is reportedly after Mobile, Ala. native Jake Peavy.
Yeah, and it’d be nice to find a little offensive consistency one of these months. I still say J. Upton has to reignite. It won’t happen tonight, unless he gets a large pinch hit, as he’s riding the bench. Not sure what’s behind that. Apparently it’s just a day off, though the series opener against the league’s best team seems an odd time to rest him. Maybe he’s still ailing a little.
In any case, I don’t buy this business that what happens in this series bears on what could happen in October. Nevertheless, it would buoy the Office’s spirits if the hometown nine could take a couple from the Redbirds.
We shall see, starting in a couple hours. Here’s tonight’s Bravos’ lineup: Simmoons, J-Hey, Freeman, Gattis, McCann, Uggla, C. Johnson, Constanza CF, Minor.
