Open thread, 7/6, Braves vs. Amaury Telemacos

Einstein said the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Presenting Fredi’s line-up:

Simmons ss, Heyward rf, JUpton lf, Freeman 1b, McCann c, Uggla 2b, BUpton cf, CJohnson 3b, Hudson p

They’ll face Kyle Kendrick, 7-1 with a 2.86 ERA lifetime vs. the Braves.

If this team misses the playoffs, as I fear it will, maybe, just maybe, the hierarchy will wake up and realize Fredi ain’t up to the job.

Fat chance.

  1. Last night’s loss belongs to Devil Hernandez. But Fredi makes Bobby look like Casey, Connie, and John McGraw rolled into one.

I think Fredi is not the person for the job and Duggla and BJ are not good enough for theirs, either.

I will give Fredi some MINOR slack in having to deal with the Uptons. He has been saddled with this problem and I am not sure any manager, past or present, could handle the maddening failure of them to date. The Braves are stuck with huge salaries for basic incompetence at the plate. While Schafer should be playing every day, the ATL brass could not stomach paying BJ millions to sit on the bench. There is always the hope that he will snap out of it. The season is getting deeper and his ability to “turn it around” diminishes every game. It just won’t happen.

I have no idea what I would do, but my knee-jerk would be to put him on the bench and give JS the nod.

    Any suggestions out there?

  3. I believe they’ve put Schafer on the DL, which is why Terdoslavich is up. I’d be giving him some playing time over one of the Uptons at the moment as well though.

At the very least, tinker with the batting order if you’re not making any changes to the lineup Fredi!

Our pitching has been solid, but as we’re all too familiar with, that can only keep us in the race for so long. Eventually the guys who are paid to hit will need to start doing that.

  4. Weird team. They score 4 runs on Cliff Lee and can’t do anything against a bunch of no-name pitchers.

The Office’s worst nightmare would be the Braves winning the World Series. Fredi would have a lifetime sinecure, no matter what he did after that. If you are from Georgia, think: Vince Dooley.

Even when they are not hitting the Uptons comprise two-thirds of the best outfield in baseball. Heyward finally started hitting. BJ will hit, too. I think Chipper has been talking to Greg Walker about BJ’s stroke.

That was a hell of a swing Heyward put on that home-run tonight. It is barely possible to hit a ball better.

If that dildo wins the World Series, he can stay here and yammer about card backs and hat tipping and every inane thing that comes into his pea brain for a good long while.

And Jack is absolutely right about this team’s outfield.
