Where’s Randall Delgado?

He’s at Reno, pitching horribly.

Randall has 0 wins and a 9.09 ERA in 8 starts with a 1.933 WHIP. As for the other prospects shipped to Arizona:

*Zeke Spruill has struggled since his promotion from Double-A Mobile, striking out only 6 in 18 IP.

*Don’t expect Nick Ahmed to get promoted any time soon — he’s hitting .162 with 1 XBH in 111 AB’s at Mobile.

*Brandon Drury is raking at Single-A South Bend but the third baseman is a marginal prospect at best.

Randall surprises me. He had his moments last season but those may have been the highlights of a briefer than expected major league career.

  1. It’s also got to be a kick in the gut to go from Atlanta, where he has some initial success and he knew he’d have a chance to compete every season, to Chicago where they’ve known nothing but disappointment these past few seasons. I figure a lot of his struggles are mental, and who knows what type of throwing program they’ve got him on there…

Our major league instruction is iffyer than it once was (take a bow, Roger!) but our system wide programs are still among the best.

Time after time we’ve seen promising guys from our organization go somewhere else and simply not develop. That goes back to the package we gave up fro Fred, if not even earlier. Smoltz has consistently said that our minors were a dramatic improvement from Detroit’s.

  3. Here are how some other ex-Braves are doing in the minors:
    Scott Proctor 0 0 8.59

    Jairo Asencio 0 0 1.80

    Drew Sutton .267 0 16

    J.C. Boscan .338 0 8

    Brent Lillibridge .283 2 4

    Jaye Chapman 0 0 17.05

    Luis Durango .233 0 4

    Mike Hessman .245 7 13

    Brett Oberholtzer 2 3 6.08

    Blaine Boyer 0 1 3.07

    George Sherrill 0 1 6.75

    Peter Moylan 2 1 3.94

    Jesse Chavez 2 2 2.70

    Pete Orr .203 0 3

    Zach Miner 1 2 5.40

    Felix Pie .218 3 12

    Erik Cordier 1 0 8.68

    J.R. Towles .194 2 9

    Ryan Langerhans .239 7 20

I think it’s a little early to write off Delgado. If AZ can’t straighten him out, some other team will get a good deal on him.
