Open thread, 4/10, Braves vs. Victoria Jacksons

Barack Obama killed my mother.

I’d remind those few Marlins fans remaining to save some venom for Bud Selig, without whom Jeffrey Loria’s ownership wouldn’t have been possible.

The Fish have nothing to play for this season except maybe avoiding the distinction as the worst team in baseball. The Astros will certainly give them a good fight.

Of course, Selig can also be blamed for allowing the Astros’ sale to the owner of a shady mercenary outfit (so he could move the Brewers into the National League). How come the NFL doesn’t seem to continually come up with the sorts of dodgey owners MLB does? (Other than only dodgey types would guarantee The Used Car Salesman to always vote his way.) The only really dodgey NFL owner in recent years seem to be those whose families have controlled franchises for real long times, like Bill Bidwell (family has controlled the franchise since 1932) and the late Al Davis (who controlled the franchise from 1972 until his death). Hell, even Bud Adams, a nitwit who got his NFL franchise as a college graduation present, isn’t as dodgey as, say, the McCourts. It’s like the NFL gets the country club types, and MLB gets the guy who hustled the country club’s valet-parking contract.

    El Oso Blanco!

  3. How about Juan Francisco – aka Roadrunner – as well? He’s been really impressive at the plate and has been decent defensively as well. So far everything seems to be going right for the Bravos, even without Freddie and McCann, and Heyward struggling. I think this weekend will be a really good chance to see where the team is at – I’d love to see them take 2 of 3 from the Nats…

Caz, I like Juan Francisco, but I don’t get him confused with Ralph Garr.

That’s right. There’s only one Roadrunner, dammit.
