Is Halladay done?

His miserable spring continued today: 2.2 ip, 6 h, 7 r, 7 er, 4 bb, 2 k, 1 wp, 1 hr, 1 hbp.

Well, he’s 35, had shoulder trouble last season and is coming off a career high in ERA (in seasons with more than 75 IP), his second worst WHIP, and his fewest IP in 7 years. His K/9IP remained a respectable 7.6, but if his fastball his topping out in the high 80s and his command is lousy, that will no longer be the case. Luckily for the Phillies, he’s in the last year of his contract.

Good riddance. Before he leaves someone on the Nationals should drill this artificial tough guy in the ribs.

  3. The Phillies, like last year, are a .500 team at best.

I’ve thought for a while that all of that complete game, Old Time Hardball stuff would catch up to him sooner or later.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up back in Toronto.

Like a lot of mid-thirties pitchers do historically, Doc’s lost his velocity and he’ll have to learn some new tricks such as pitching to contact. I don’t see that ending well for him, especially since the Phillie infield defense is injury ridden, the corner outfielders are defensively adventurous, and the CF,Revere, has a lot of range but has a rag arm. It’s too bad; he was my favorite pitcher to watch going back to see Toronto days because he could go deep into games and was a thinking man’s pitcher for this time period. But based on last year and this spring, it looks as if time may be running out for him.
