Open thread, 8/8, Braves vs. Norman Fells

Yes, Mr. Roper is a Philly native. Surprised?

Not much to say about tonight’s game, except that the Bravos need to improve their record against Kyle Kendrick, who is an inexplicable 6-1 with a 2.28 career ERA vs. the local nine.

  1. Signed the twitition. That’s the best honor I’ve seen yet. Beats the hell out of the stupid cowboy hat the Astros give him. Hell, I’d let Ozzie coach third for the day.

  2. So are these new Bourn rumors just Boras trying to stir the pot or what? Why would Philly and Washington be murmuring about this now? One winning season and Nats “fans” are going to go the way of those in Philly–a load of insufferable twits and fools.

A good win tonight, though Huddy got roughed up by his old nemesis Howard. I’d like to see Bourn around for the next few years.

  3. Does anybody else think that Durbin body blocking Martinez kind of woke us up or am I just crazy? Obviously his good pitching calmed things down but that move seemed to sort of change the momentum.

Taking a kick to the groin like this and responding by giving one back really bodes well for this team.

  4. It’s also good to see Uggla coming around; I’d love to see him go on a streak where he’ll hit 20 home runs in 30 games.

Any word on whether @BlackLarryKing is interested in bringing Ozzy to Atlanta?

  5. We have won 3 straight series and can’t close the gap on Washington. I still don’t think they are that good. At some point, they have to hit a rough spot.

  6. I’m with Jack. They’ve been absurdly lucky, especially of late.

I like Gonzalez but he’s often his own worst enemy. Strasburg has been inconsistent (and there is a possibility, which seems increasingly likely, that they’re going to ignore all of their bleating about protecting him and run him out there too much.) Ross Detweiller? Really?

The main thing they have going for them is a manager who is always excellent at maximizing what he has. If they hold on, he’ll be due the lion’s share of the credit.
