Nine years, $214 million. To quote Wimpy Paciorek, “Wow.”
I was convinced Fielder was going to end up with the Nats, a move that would’ve made D.C. instant contenders in the East.
Thank you, Mike Illitch.

Yeah, I’m feeling pretty good about this. Two heavyweights (pun intended) taking their acts to the AL for next season.
That’s a surprise. I hadn’t heard anything about Prince going to the Tigers. Of course, I hadn’t heard anything about Pujols going to the Angels, either.
I think the Tigers felt a pressing need after Martinez was lost for the season. He was a bit of an impulse buy for them.
Both Pujols and Fielder will wind up DH’s hitting .240 at the end of their contracts. That being said I’m glad they’re both in the AL.
That may be but to be honest, wouldn’t it be nice if we had an owner willing to make that kind of investment.
For a midmarket team, with a midmarket attendance; a 9/214 contract would cripple us, it would take many needs away.
I’d like to see an owner willing to make an investment just on smart deals. I don’t see Pujols or Fielder being productive for even half of their contracts.
How many such contracts have been worth it? I enjoy seeing other teams overpay. I would rather have Freddie Freeman.
But Miguel Cabrera could win a Triple Crown if he stays sober.
