Line of the day

C Kimbrel                          1   0   0   0   0   3

Venters also retired the side in his one inning of work, while Lowe tossed another solid five innings, allowing but one run — his  first given up this spring. Bad day for Scott Proctor, who allowed three earned in 1 IP. Cristhian Martinez is seen as Proctor’s main competition for the final spot on the staff, but don’t be surprised if Fredi keeps Minor AND Beachy instead.

  1. The Braves have always been fixated on Proctor, and I’m not sure I understand why. In that regard, he’s not unlike Milkman Cabrera. He really only had one good year, which was with the Yanks. We’ve inked him to two contracts now and he still hasn’t produced anything. Unless he does a complete 180 before the end of ST, I hope the Braves cut ties with him.

I haven’t been exactly overwhelmed by Sherrill (who was awful Wednesday), Linebrink or Proctor. I think the team’s best relievers so far have been the core of the bullpen — Venters, Kimbrel, Moylan and O’Flaherty — and Asencio, Martinez, Abreu and Marek. Too bad three of those last four won’t start the season with the big club. But I suppose we’ll keep a couple of the shaky vets around, and when they screw up enough, we’ll bring up one of those youngsters.

  3. Another poor outing tonight for Proctor against the Nats. 4 runs, 2/3 inning. If he breaks ST with the team I’ll be disappointed.

As a side note, our defense is atrocious.
