The bench, the bullpen and the rest

The starting pitching has been slightly above average. The offense, slightly below. The defense, well below. But the Braves’ ‘pen and bench have been exemplary. Tonight’s win was a microcosm of the 2010 Braves. It may not be much, it may be excruciating, but you can’t turn away.

And hats off to the fans. More than 36,000 turned out tonight — about time.

The Braves are tied for 4th in the league with 717 runs, not including tonight’s action. The offense has been above-average.

  2. It’s been very hit-or-miss. We have had quite a few “outburst” games, making up in total runs for the games when we’ve been silenced by this year’s Rick Vanden Hurk clones. I just like that guy’s name.

  3. This offense has been no-hit and, I think 4 times, 1 hit. Lately, the offense has looked like something from a George Romero film.

  4. And the Cubs win again! I never thought I’d be happy to say that; but we now have a 1.5 game lead over the Padres. One more win by us and the Rockies are done too.

If Lowe keeps pitching how he has all month, we’ll look good tonight and then I like our chances to get at least 2 games against Philly this weekend, especially since Hamels will most likely only pitch 3 innings on Saturday. Kendrick is the Friday starter and the Sunday starter is yet to be named; I’m positive that it will not be Halladay or Oswalt though.

    Come on guys!

  5. Kendrick, Hamels, and Blanton on short rest maybe maybe, or perhaps a reliever on Sunday. I’m sure it won’t be Halladay or Oswalt because they’ll go on Wednesday and Thursday, right?
