Back to the rotation for KK?

Soul Brother No. 11 may be back in the Braves’ rotation. He was recalled Monday as a precaution in case Derek Lowe is hurt.

Kawakami hasn’t shown much at Gwinnett, allowing 26 hits in 21 IP. But the dude seems to pitch to the competition, so maybe a pennant race will bring out his best.

Unfortunately, Cristhian Martinez was demoted to make room, but he’ll be back in a few days.

  1. But sending Martinez out means that he won’t be eligible for the postseason roster. And I’d rather have him than Kawakami.

  2. I would’ve released Farnsworth.

Tokyokie: I saw on the AJC today that roster rule has been changed and that a player doesn’t have to be on the 25 man roster September 1 to be eligible for the postseason. (I had never heard that before …)

  4. teamlittleguy, I wasn’t aware of the change. It used to be that a player needed to be on the active roster as of Aug. 31, although players on the DL (and I think the 15-day DL ceases to exist come Sept. 1) were eligible, too. I guess the rule change means that the player has to at least be on the 40-man roster the end of August so that teams don’t just dump half their rosters a week before the season ends.

  5. Look at Brandon Beachy’s numbers. He deserves to be the one starting.

They’ve loosened the strictures over the years. This incident probably convinced them more than anything, since it almost turned a deadline trade into an early ’80′s Chevy Chase movie.

  7. Maybe Farnsworth’s outing last night is a sign of things to come? I’ll admit, I was worried with him coming in and having “only” a 6 run lead.

But he worked pretty efficiently and got through the inning with no trouble. So hopefully he’s found a groove, and this isn’t just a case of a blind squirrel…
