The $82 million fifth starter

Looks like the Yanks are about to land Cliff Lee, which means death for any team reliant on left-handed hitters. A.J. Burnett, struggling mightily this season, becomes New York’s fifth starter, behind the best trioka of southpaws in baseball (Sabathia, Pettitte and Lee) and Phil Hughes. Not fair.

I would rather have him go to the Yankees, than the Mets, Phillies or another NL team.

Right. Great news that he stays in the AL.

  4. Mariners are backing out of the deal. One of the prospects is hurt and another team has a better offer.

Good. Don’t need the rich getting richer

Good result, as long as that better offer isn’t coming from the Mutts.

Did he go to Texas? I just looked up his stats and it appears he is throwing as well this year as he ever has. Lord I am glad he didn’t come to our league, much less our division.

If he had gone to the Yanks, Vazquez might have been traded into the NL. So this is the best scenario we could have hoped for.

  9. Rangers just won the west. Easily.

I still expect Javy back here for next season, if we can offer him a halfway decent contract.

Now the Phills and Mutts get to fight over the likes of Ted Lilly.

  11. Don’t see Javy returning. Money would be better spent on offense, and Minor, Teheran, Vizcaino and Delgado aren’t far off.
