Valentine to manage Dodgers in 2011

You read it here first. I have no inside info, just a hunch. Torre’s in the last year of his contract and reportedly wants off the McCourt soap opera.

Valentineout of the running in Florida, is Lasorda‘s boy, and from what I’ve heard about McCourt he probably buys into that whole rah-rah nonsense. L.A. fans can thank the Used Car Salesman for this, as he approved the underfunded McCourts from Boston as owners when surely there were better-funded, local candidates.

  2. The fact that he’s mysteriously out of the running for a job that is seemingly a great fit would support your theory.

  3. It’s the job he’s always wanted. The Mets gig was always (as are most all things related to the Mets) the nearest, but decidedly lesser, simulacrum. The Mutts are, and always will be, the Connie Stevens to the Dodgers’ Debbie Reynolds. The Bo Derek to their Ursula Andress.

    Have to comment on the picture: is that a kickass backdrop for a minor league park or what? I love the Appy League parks for that reason, too. Lasorda, Garvey and Valentine are pretty recognizable but I think a lot of people wouldn’t realize that’s Billy Bucks over on the left. He looks very different sans ‘stache.
