Braves kick ineffective ingrate to the curb

I read this just as B-Mac launched his 10th inning bomb. Suddenly, everything’s right with the world.

Jeff Bennett, aka Rick Luecken 2.0, is an ex-Brave!

The Braves didn’t announce it at the time, but they suspended his pay beginning June 25. He filed a grievance with the players association and continued his rehab, including two recent minor-league appearances.

When the grievance was heard, the Braves were directed to either “cure the default” by giving him his back pay for the period he was suspended, or allow him to become a free agent. Braves media-relations director Brad Hainje said Bennett requested the team release him from his contract, which they did.

Like anyone’s going to sign him.

Except why the hell was Moylan hitting for himself when Soriano was going to replace him in the bottom of the inning anyway? And why is Kelly Johnson starting over Prado?

Oh. So KJ couldn’t make that play, either.

  3. Prado’s hurt — nothing serious — and apparently so is Ryan Church. Moylan batted bec. there was no other option.

  4. I’m waiting for Dave to defend Bennett.

With several guys banged up, I’m sure glad we kept the completely useless (can’t hit, can’t play the field) Greg Norton on the roster.

Hey, that Soriano guy’s pretty effective when the umpire knows the strike zone.

dave is simply a breath of fresh air…and Hohn needs a swift kick in the berries.

Rick Leucken? To quote Joe, “Good grief!”

Can you work in a Jim Acker reference sometime this week? That would be awesome.

Yeah, Norton’s got to bite the pipe. We need every man able to lend a hand and he’s just spent.

The funny thing was that I was thinking of just such a thing to raise some hackles for funsies. But, along with everyone else, I’m glad to see him leave.

But come on now, “Waterhead Skeeter?” That’s gold Jerry. Pure gold.

  10. Ovaltine? Why not call it round-tine? I killed Jerry, I killed!!

On a serious note, I’m glad to see Bennett gone, too many blown leads to stomach. Now if we can just find a way to keep KJ out of the infield we’ll be two for the better.

Big series this weekend, but with Hanson, Lowe and JJ on the hill a sweep is not out of the question, as long as the bats come back to life.

Prado got nailed with a ball in BP and my guess is that if we had pinch-hit for Moylan and clearned the bases, we wouldn’t have wanted Soriano on the mound with a 5/6/7 run lead. Also, the bench may have been empty with injuries to Prado and Yesco. I would’ve still pinch hit and gotten a second reliever up in case it wasn’t a save situation.

Yeah, we got rid of the Bennett problem. But are you aware that Buddy Carlyle is almost finished with his rehab assignments?

‘Gonzo is shakier than a dog shitting peach pits’ – this comment made my weekend already.

  15. Bring back Damaso Garcia and Jim Presley.
