Medlen to the rescue?

Turns out the Braves are going to use Kris Medlen in relief, Today, in the G-Braves’ opener, Medlen retired all 11 batters he faced, striking out four.

He came in to relieve Tommy Hanson, who struck out 10 in 4-2/3 scoreless innings.

Which leads me to today’s poll:

  1. Medlen should be with the big club now. Bringing up Hanson to relieve is a little tricker. I’d rather not mess with Tommy despite the success of David Price. Regardless, I think we’re going to see Hanson sooner rather than later.

  2. Boyer’s out of options, right? So the team will have to shoot him to create a roster space, I suppose. Another performance like yesterday, and I’ll be OK with that.

  3. I’m with Viva Rufie. I don’t want to shoehorn Hanson into a role he’s not made for. I’ve always wondered if we hurt Mercker’s development by doing that in ’90 and ’91.

Kris? Hell yes, bring him up.

  4. It’s going to get lost in all of the drama tonight, but Campillo looked pretty solid (he usually does when he gets to start an inning clean and work his way through his preferred pitch sequences) and Soriano might be back on the road to BMF-hood.

  5. The pen is atrocious. Can anyone throw the ball over the plate? Bennett could very well be the worst of the bunch and Moylan still does not look right. Gonzalez would have walked in the tying run in last night’s game had Nieves not swung at ball four way out of the zone. I wouldn’t rush Hanson to the bigs to fill out the pen, but I would definitely consider sending Moylan down and bringing Medlen up. And, is it just me or is anyone else completely unimpressed with O’Flaherty?
