Will Hank reign as the HR king?

In my mind, 755 is still the only number that matters. Now Bud Selig, in what stands as his first good idea as commish, is considering reinstating the Hammer as baseball’s home run king.

Selig could make it official in the record book, using his “best interest of baseball” powers.

  1. So long as he resigns right after he announces the decision. This will be known as The Selig Era as much as it is known the Steroid Era. Fuckin’ chump. Bring back Bowie Kuhn’s corpse. Kennesaw Mountain Landis. Anyone but this used car salesman.

Everybody with a cluster of 14 brain cells already knows this, anyway. Making it official, especially via an edict from a personal friend of Hank’s, is a colossal mistake.

  3. When I got my cellphone, I chose 7551 as the final four digits — Hank’s home-run total and his place on the all-time list. I still tell people that’s what the number means.

Wish more people got it. Sigh.

  4. I’d settle for a designation that the Hammer is the People’s Champ.
