A-Fraud, indeed

In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

Frankly, I’m surprised.

arod_shirtlessAnd how ’bout the timing? Did Joe Torre get his Cousin Rocco to grease these “sources”?

Hank Aaron is now likely to remain the real home run king. I assumed the 33-year-old A-Rod, only 202 short, would surpass 755 career homers without scandal.

He’ll probably break the mark, but now he’ll do so under the same cloud that follows Barry Bonds.

Quick, how many homers did Bonds end up hitting? It’s easy to forget.

Wonder who the other 103 names on the list are?

  2. So what are the odds Bret Boone and Luis Gonzalez aren’t on it?

  3. I really wish Griffey Jr. could have stayed healthy. Seems like a nice guy who doesn’t cheat, and his topping Hank wouldn’t bother me. But then that’s the point, isn’t it? 755 is such an awesome number, so difficult to achieve, what with the injuries most players rack up during the course of a career, that the only way to do it is to cheat.

And if that’s how it happened, fine by me. Don’t forget Joe’s a former teammate of Hank, and I’m sure likes Bad Henry a whole lot more than he does A-Nob.

Bighead Barry hit 762. And I’m also wondering who the other 103 are.

Any guesses on when A-Rod will have his tearful press conference apology?
